Usually in this type of a situation UEFA punishes the side that goes against the established rules. In this case Armenia and Azerbaijan are punished in an equal way. One asks WHY? How just is this?

Armenia is punished with a zero points for not agreeing to play in a neutral field. Yerevan wanted to play according to the rules of the UEFA game. If UEFA was going to say in case Armenia and Azerbaijan fall in the same group we will cancel the matches unless they agreed to play in a neutral game, it should had done this before the teams were selected so everyone would know the rules.

Now, both UEFA and Azerbaijan change rules in the middle of the game. This throws a big shade on the impartiality and authority or UEFA.

"The UEFA Executive Committee, chaired by UEFA President Michel Platini, completed its
meeting today midday, at the Abe Lenstra stadium in Heerenveen, ahead of tonight's UEFA
European Under-21 Championship Final.

"Also reviewed was the situation regarding the location of the matches to be played between
Armenia and Azerbaijan, in the UEFA EURO 2008™ qualifying competition. As no suitable
compromise could be found between the two associations it was decided to cancel the two
matches, namely Azerbaijan-Armenia scheduled for 8 September and Armenia-Azerbaijan
schedule for 12 September, and to award both associations zero points for the matches."

Yes UEFA has the right to cancel matches, but only of two parties give consent. Armenia has repeatedly said that it will not agree to cancellation. Now the games are canceled with both parties awarded zero points. As you notice in the quotation "As no suitable
compromise could be found between the two associations…" Suitable compromise??? So if one of the national teams of UEFA wants to violate the rules of UEFA games the solution is to find a suitable compromise or to punish the violator? I rest my case.

This is not just and not fair. Soccer, sports and politics should not mix. In fact Armenia thought that traveling to Bauk and hosting the National Soccer Team of Azerbaijan could be a good will gesture toward making a contribution to a peace process negotiated by the OSCE. UEFA should have taken this into consideration and award this approach.

However, UEFA awards peace with zero points.

We call on UEFA to reconsider its decision and reestablish justice. If one party does not want to play with the rules that UEFA has established, why should the other party be deprived from points?

UEFA should give Azerbaijan a second chance to play the games with Armenia and promote them under a peace initiative, not under animosity. If Azerbaijan does not agree to the long established rules of UEFA, it should be punished for such a behavior and Armenia given the deserved points.

Sports and politics should not be mixed with each other. In fact sports and games have always been promoter of peace and understanding among nations.

Crab Blocking - The Ultimate Equalizer in Youth Football

Crab Blocking is a must for offensive linemen in Youth Football. It is something we teach all of our offensive linemen to do and do very well, we take great pride in it. We use it to fill in the gaps of pulling linemen, as well as a tactic against dominating defensive linemen. This block allows even the smallest and weakest of your offensive linemen to neuteralize even the best defender in youth football.

Crab blocking also goes by the word, scramble block and is cousin to the cut or shoeshine block.

Unlike the cut or shoeshine block, the crab block for us is just meant as a neuteralizer, we are not aiming to take the defender to the ground. It starts with a parallel charge to the line of scrimmage by the offensive linemen, with him tossing his outside arm across his body to the inside, both hands on the ground and butt in the air. With both hands on the ground and the player scurrying on all fours he almost looks like a crab on the beach, hence the name. We ask the crab blocker to keep his feet moving and to move his side into the defender as the defender approaches. In most cases the defender makes a half effort to pass this impassable impediment and is easily neuteralized.

Since we are foot to foot on offensive line splits this block rarely has to cover much ground, but every one of our offensive linemen is taught to cover 3 gaps with this very effective block. Our kids take great pride in beign great crab blockers. The entire progression of how we rep it and teach it is covered in Chapter 4 of the book. We often even have our center snap and crab on every snap he does on air in football practice.

Coaching Flag Football

Your main goal in coaching flag football, even before winning, should be for the kids to have a safe and fun environment to play in. Let your team know that in order for them to be successful, they must work together and they must have a good attitude. Flag football is designed so that everybody is able to play so you must make sure that they work in harmony.

Coaching flag football means that you're going to set an example of good sportsmanship! Do not be a coach that marches to the middle of the field and screams at the referee. If you truly feel that an unfair call was made, calmly approach the ref to find out his reasoning. You can discuss it with him but don't take it too far, it's only one call.

Let the kids play! During practices it's essential to teach them different plays but don't get too complex; they're not there to learn in a classroom setting they are there to play flag football. The sport is mostly for younger kids and they're not going to be successful if they cannot understand what to do. Start with some simple plays and then build off of the simple plays into more complex plays. You will be pleasantly surprised about how easily they will be able to catch on to a difficult play if they are comfortable with the basics.

Always keep in mind that teams play how they practice! If they're scared of the ball during practice then they're going to be scared of the ball during the game. Your practices should consist largely of practice games. This conditioning includes not only flag football skills but also good attitudes. If a player shows misconduct to other players or to any of the coaches during practice, they must be disciplined. Otherwise they'll continue with their foul behavior and set a bad example for other players. If they're properly disciplined (without being too harsh) then they will see that playing time will be lost if they display that kind of attitude.

Also, do not cancel practices in strenuous conditions like snow or rain. If there is a chance of bad weather during the game then you want your team to be prepared. If it happens to be nice sunny weather on game-day, they will play with the effort that they used in practice under bad conditions. However, you don't want them to have the practice of playing under perfect conditions and then have game-day be a rain shower, they'll not be prepared. Coaching flag football gives you seniority to make decisions. It's good coaching to prepare your team for the worst but make sure that you never compromise their safety.

Teach your team to win the games and teach them to have a winning attitude. You must always remember to practice what you preach while you are coaching flag football.

John Beck on Deck

There are fewer teams in the NFL with a more uncertain future than the Miami Dolphins. Miami, a team that has been neither horrible or wonderful over the past few seasons, has struggled at the quarterback position. After trading for Dante Culpepper - a former Minnesota Vikings star - the Dolphins seemed to have found the answer. Until, that is, this answer returned to a question when the season began. Not only did Culpepper start out with mediocre performances, but he finished on the injured reserve list.

The occurrences of last season left the Dolphins without a quarterback of the future, forcing them to draft a person to fill the role. After receiving criticism for passing on Brady Quinn, the Dolphins took John Beck. Beck, the former Brigham Young quarterback, was taken by the Miami Dolphins in the 2007 draft. Chosen with their second pick, Beck was 40th overall.

Born was born in Hayward, California, Beck attended high school in Mesa Arizona where he was a football star. During his junior and senior years, he quarterbacked his team to a 25-2 record, including a state championship. This led to a large amount of honors including first team all-state, USA Today All American honorable mention, Offensive Player of the Year, Outstanding Male Scholar Athlete honors and the Arizona High School Football Player of the Year.

Beck was recruited by BYU and began his career as a true freshman. During his sophomore year, he earned second team All-Mountain West honors and broke both the BYU single game sophomore record and the Mountain West Conference record with 67 pass attempts against UNLV. This season he also averaged 233 yards a game, passing the three thousand yard make. In the game against San Diego, Beck received a quarterback rating of 204.8.

During his junior year, Beck saw his stock take off as he received All-Moutain West Conference first team honors, and team Most Valuable Player. Ranked fifth nationally, Beck averaged 309 yards per game. He was ranked as one of the top 30 players in the Mountain West Conference by College Football News and ranked in the top-40 quarterbacks in the US by College Football Preview.

In Beck's senior year, ESPN ranked him as the second best quarterback in the nation for efficiency. After leading BYU to a 10-2 record, Beck was a finalist for the Unitas Golden Arm Award and was even mentioned in some Heisman conversations. Beck's senior year, and his collegiate career, ended when BYU beat Oregon 38-8 in the Las Vegas Bowl. During this game, Beck threw for 375 yards and two touchdowns, while running for 26 yards and one touchdown.

As for this season, Beck will probably see little - if any - playing time. Once his Rookie season is under his belt, he might surprise some people, leaving Dolphin fans to ask "Brady who?"

Ali Abdullah Harib Al-Habsi uit Oman

Wie draagt het rugnummer 1 bij de Engelse club Bolton Wanderers? Logisch antwoord: de Finse eerste keus Jussi Jaaskelainen. Helaas is dat fout. Het enige juiste antwoord is Ali Abdullah Harib Al-Habsi (foto)! De eerste en - zover ik weet - enige profvoetballer uit Oman!

Ali Al-Habsi wordt-ie afgekort genoemd in Engeland. Een keeper uit Oman. Hoe komen ze erop? Het gegeven dat Bolton-manager Sam Allardyce hem binnen de poorten heeft gehaald, roept na deze afgelopen week wellicht vraagtekens op. Maar een keeper uit Oman...

Hij schijnt toch niet de eerste de beste te zijn. Deze boomlange gozer (24 jaar) is al een tijdje vaste doelman van het nationale team van Oman en werd in 2004 gekozen tot Arabisch doelman van het jaar. Maar ja, of dat nou zo'n prestatie is. In het land der blinden, et cetera.

Maar Ali zal wel iets hebben. Hij heeft de nodige ervaring opgedaan bij het Noorse Lyn Oslo, waar hij naar eigen zeggen een nationaal record vestigde met slechts 21 tegengoals in 26 competitieduels. Begin dit jaar lijfde Allardyce hem in bij Bolton. Hij heeft nog geen wedstrijd in de Premier League gespeeld.

Momenteel wordt gekeken of ze hem kunnen uitlenen aan een andere Engelse club om ervaring te laten opdoen. Wat een vertrouwen. Maar ja... Oman...

ps: Bolton speelt maandag tegen Portsmouth. Het Portsmouth van David James die dit seizoen nog steeds geen competitiegoal tegen heeft gekregen (zie hier).
